PREDICTIONS: Heat 1 Melodifestivalen 2021 starring Danny Saucedo, Jessica Andersson, Arvingarna & Kadiatou

WHEN?: Saturday 6 February 2021

WHERE?: Annexet, Stockholm

Last year’s winners The Mamas were the 1st of 28 Melodifestivalen entries in what was a topsy-turvy year that was the 1st since 1956 without a Eurovision Song Contest.

  • Read on for reasons including our finalen and Andra Chansen predictions

  1. Kadiatou One Touch (Joy Deb, Linnea Deb, Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt, Anderz Wrethov) PREDICTION: 5th

We might not have written a great deal about Kadiatou in our Heat 1 preview but we’ve been enjoying her recent singles Christmas Night With You and Best I’ve Ever Had in the run up to the reveal of these Heat 1 snippets. The 60-second clip we’ve heard of One Touch very much sets the scene for a modern dance track with promise.

2. Lillasyster Pretender (Isak Hallén, Jakob Redtzer, Martin Westerstrand, Ian Paolo Lira, Palle Hammarlund) PREDICTION: 7th

Gravel-voiced rock is far from our go-to music genre but this is so out there that it’s going to attract an audience. 2nd in the running order is far from ideal but there’s usually a metal entry that makes the finalen and this could well be in with a shout.

3. Jessica Andersson Horizon (David Kreuger, Fredrik Kempe, Marcus Lidén, Christian Holmström) PREDICTION: 6th

We don’t mind admitting that we’re long-time fans of Andersson and were willing this to be uptempo and in a similar dance floor-friendly vein to her last entry Party Voice. Andersson’s performance is always impressive and her diction means the storytelling of this Carola-esque anthem shines bright. Invincible part two.

4. Paul Rey The Missing Piece (Fredrik Sonefors, Laurell Barker, Paul Rey) PREDICTION: Andra Chansen

Rey did far better than we were predicting to even reach last year’s finalen and we’ve been enjoying that radio-friendly ditty in the run-up to this heat. The Missing Piece feels a little bit more uptempo and again we’re far from convinced in the run up to Saturday.

5. Arvingarna Tänker inte alls gå hem (Not going to go home at all) (Stefan Brunzell, Nanne Grönvall, Thomas G:son, Bobby Ljunggren) PREDICTION: Finalen

Nanne is 1 of the songwriters here and this is exactly the type of old-school schlager with a driving beat and way with an old-school melody that saw us fall in love with Melodifestivalen 2 decades ago. The man band’s last entry did far better than we were expecting and this was the most fun of the 60-second clips. After Bjorkman’s departure, will there be a place for this in the Melodifestivalens of the future?

6. Nathalie Brydolf Fingerprints (Andreas Stone Johansson, Etta Zelmani, Laurell Barker, Anna-Klara Folin) PREDICTION: Andra Chansen

The contest’s 1st big ballad and the success of this will very much depend on the quality of its performance. The recorded minute we’ve heard has promise and a sensitive song such as this might be better suited to a studio without audience as we have for the 1st time in many a year in 2021.

7. Danny Saucedo Dandi dansa (Danny Saucedo, Karl-Johan Råsmark) PREDICTION: Finalen

Will this year’s pre-contest favourite suffer the same fate as 2020 Heat 1’s Felix Sandman and bounce straight to Andra Chansen? This isn’t a Saucedo showstopper in the vein of his 3 big top 3 Melodifestivalen finishes but it’s cute, catchy and credible from the clip and, although not a winner perhaps, this will do better than many are predicting.
