WORTH A LOOK?: ****
WHERE: Old Vic
The Old Vic is not a venue renowned for its late-night stand-up comedy but on the evidence of this sold-out fundraiser perhaps it won’t be long before it is.
- Read on for reasons including who was the star of Stand up for Cystic Fibrosis
Our highlight of this event in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust was the up-and-coming Sara Pascoe who confessed she’d recently split up with her comedian boyfriend and there was an embarrassing story about him she’d felt forbidden to tell – until now.
Tim Key, currently starring in Art at this very venue, brought his own unique verse to an event he’d helped to organise.
Awkward headliner Simon Amstell, author of Grandma’s House, one of our favourite ever TV shows, regaled us with tales of MDMA and his boyfriend but it was the unashamed hosting of Daniel Kitson which really brought the house down.
We weren’t so keen on final turn John Kearns but the rapid-fire nature of this gig and bill meant the audience didn’t have long to wait for a new act.
Will 90-minute stand-up shows starting at 10pm bring in a new audience to this destination venue? Quite possibly. And all for a good cause: lovely.
