SONG OF THE WEEK: Fever by Alison Goldfrapp & Paul Woolford (week beginning 6 March 2023)

WORTH A LOOK?: ****1/2

Leeds-born Woolford had a top 5 hit in 2020 with Looking For Me with Diplo featuring vocals from Kareen Lomax – and this new single feels far more current than Alison Goldfrapp’s recent collaboration.

The lyrics of Alison Goldfrapp’s last single, a song of the week for us in February, appeared to find the former Goldfrapp frontwoman at a bit of a career crossroads which seemed apt as she mused: ‘Everything has changed’ and ‘I’m Digging Deeper now.’

Here on this follow-up there’s a moment towards its close where it is so disco fantastic with lyrics including: ‘This is the real thing here’ and ‘We’re caught in a wild affair’ that we get actual Donna Summer dancefloor vibes.

Alison Goldfrapp next plays new venue Outernet in Soho in May for a gig that has already sold out before an appearance in June at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

We last saw the band perform Felt Mountain live at Royal Festival Hall in April 2022 and said: ‘Goldfrapp has never been the most prolific band and we’ve never had to wait quite so long for a new studio album as the 5 long years since Silver Eye.

‘So we’ve everything crossed that there’s a new album on the horizon, perhaps stocked with some of those trademark dancefloor gems, that we can enjoy live at a venue or even better at an outdoor festival – and soon. A Good Friday indeed.’

If Alison Goldfrapp is about to unleash a solo album of dancefloor collaboration bangers – and we think she is – we’re absolutely here for it.
