Henderson has performed it live with Arthur but it’s finally released with her friend and fellow pop star Grennan in the featured role and their performance on Graham Norton’s TV show is available to watch below.
We’ve always loved Henderson’s songwriting and she’s at the piano in the clip but it’s the cheeky lyrics which can’t help but raise an eyebrow here as the couple pull out of the obvious and rude rhymes suggested by the lyrics right at the last minute.
Let’s Go Home Together is the charming tale of an odd couple who don’t appear to have much in common. but after a few drinks find that they are attracted to each other.
Sample cheeky lyric: ‘I’d never have given you a second look but I like the way you don’t give a … damn.’ And: ‘Even though you talk way too fast, I can’t stop looking at your … eyes.’
It may be the polar opposite of Lucy Spraggan’s Sober, who also appeared with Henderson and Arthur on the 2012 series of X Factor, but it’s so good that it’s the 2021 equivalent of Fairytale Of New York by the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl.
We’ve seen Henderson live twice and wrote after her O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire gig in 2015: ‘she’s clearly writing about herself and her experiences and it is in this respect that you expect that her next album will be even more successful because she will have much more life experience to draw on.’
She didn’t play this song when we next saw her next at Hoxton Hall in 2019 but her songwriting now is far more reflective of her expanding life experience and, although she’s taking an unconventional route to her long-awaited 2nd album, we can’t wait to hear it.
