Author Phoebe Waller-Bridge won our 2016 Best TV/Film actress monsta for her work on the 1st TV series (5 reasons to watch here) of this show and the original play on which it is based comes to the West End’s Wyndham’s Theatre 20/8 through 14/9/19. Tickets

2. Ball & Boe reunite for Les Miserables

Alfie Boe is perhaps best known for playing hero Jean Valjean in Les Miserables and here reprises the role in a concert staging which sees him reunite with Michael Ball as Javert. The star-studded cast includes Carrie Hope-Fletcher (Heathers) and Matt Lucas. Runs at the Gielgud Theatre 10/8 to 30/11/19. Tickets

3. Evita at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre

This is one of the most beautiful outdoor locations to catch a show in summer and this Lloyd-Webber/Rice classic is ripe for reinvention by director Jamie Lloyd. Runs 2/8 to 21/9/19. Tickets

4.Lindsay Duncan and Alex Jennings in Hansard at National Theatre

Alex Jennings and Lindsay Duncan star in this new play by Simon Woods at the National’s Lyttelton Theatre. It’s set in 1988 and Jennings plays a Tory politician with Duncan as his wife. Runs 22/8 to 25/11/19. Tickets 

5. Appropriate starring Monica Dolan at the Donmar

Dolan won an Olivier earlier this year for her supporting role in All About Eve and here stars in this Branden Jenkins-Jacobs UK premiere about a family which gathers at their late father’s home in Arkansas to bury the hatchet and prepare the former plantation for its sale. Runs 16/8 – 5/10/19. Tickets 

6. Falsettos stars Natasha J. Barnes, Daniel Boys, Matt Cardle, Laura Pitt-Pulford and Oliver Savile

This musical won 2 Tonys and tells the story of a gay man, his wife, his lover, his son, their psychiatrist and lesbian neighbours. It boasts a star-studded cast (see above) and runs at the Other Palace 30/8 through 23/11/19. Tickets

7. Gurinder Chadha directs Bruce Springsteen film Blinded By The Light 

Chadha (Bend It Like Beckham, Viceroy’s House) directs this story of journalist Sarfraz Manzoor and his love of Springsteen. Released 9/8/19. Tickets

8. Portsmouth seafront Victorious Festival

New Order, The Specials, Clean Bandit, All Saints and Republica feature in this year’s line-up of the fabulous festival on the coast in Portsmouth, Hampshire 23 to 25/8/19. Last year A HumDrum Mum brought us front row moshpit coverage of action including Prodigy.  Tickets

9. Shura releases sophomore album

Shura’s KOKO concert was our gig of the year in 2016 and she follows up acclaimed debut album Nothing’s Real  with 2nd LP Forevher 16/8/19 including 2nd single Religion (hear and watch above). She plays Camden Roundhouse in November. Tickets
