- Read on for our top 5 best new musicals of 2019 so far and our hopes for the next half year
We said: ‘Come From Away is a big, warm hug of a musical about how kindness can heal division and make the world a better place. It’s already a hit on Broadway and will, no doubt, run and run in London’s West End.’
2. Leave To Remain, Lyric, Hammersmith Review
We said: ‘We think this deserves a much wider audience and a West End transfer.’
3. Six, Arts Theatre, Tickets Review
We said: ‘We’re reminded of the best girl groups like Little Mix and Spice Girls by the interplay of the wives and by how the women are stronger together by the end. We guarantee you’ll be headed home humming the hits with a smile across your face.’
4. The View Upstairs, Soho Theatre, Tickets Review
We said: ‘It’s exactly the kind of show that is both so entertaining and thought-provoking that you just don’t want the spell it casts to be over quite yet.’
5. Vulvarine, on tour Tickets Review
We said: ‘Fat Rascal is doing for musical theatre what Phoebe Waller-Bridge is doing for comedy (Fleabag) and thrillers (Killing Eve). That is re-inventing them by having women at their heart and playing with familiar stereotypes.’
On our radar for the next 6 months are Dear Evan Hansen (Noel Coward Theatre, Tickets), Falsettos (Other Palace, Tickets), and Big (Dominion, Tickets).
