Great Danes Alphabeat brought their pop fizz to three fantastic albums and bowed out of the charts all too prematurely.

  • Read on for reasons including why this is the best pop album of 2018 so far

We saw them many times in their heyday, most memorably at a celebratory O2 Shepherds’s Bush Empire gig on their way up, as rather stilted support for Lady Gaga at The 02 and finally at a Camden Dingwalls farewell.

Two of the three Anders from Alphabeat (Anders SG and Anders B, to be precise) formed THANKS as lead singer Stine Bramsen went on to solo success.

THANKS are far less of a band than Alphabeat and have the feel of a production duo rather than the more usual mini-boy band you might expect.

Last single Sunshine (see below) is worthy of inclusion on any Alphabeat Best Of. It marries the spirit of the Jackson 5 to the beats of Fatboy Slim and gives birth to the sort of tune that deserves to stick around on the radio until the weather is more deserving of its title.

Although Anders SG shared singing duties with Stine in Alphabeat, there are many featured vocalists here which accentuate the Motown sound that these musical magpies have given a modern EDM refresh.

Especially successful is Livin’ My Life which could have been parachuted in from an album by M People or any 90s dance pioneers.

We’ve no idea whether THANKS will find their feet as Alphabeat did with live shows but we’re utterly there should they decide to.

In the meantime Anders X 2 can content themselves with having gifted us the best pop album of 2018 so far.
