SONG OF THE MONTH: Favourite Thing by Fleur East

WORTH A LOOK?: ****

OUT: now

East has a new record label and, while this new song features the high-energy pop most associated with her, it adds Afrobeat to the mix, taking inspiration from tribal music and sounds from her mother’s Ghanaian heritage.

Fresh from a stint on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity, there’s an interesting interview with East just published which leads us to expect a few more singles before any new album drops.

East won X Factor in 2014 after competing unsuccessfully in 2005 as a member of the girl group Addictiv Ladies. She became the 1st act to reach pole position on the iTunes chart with a cover of an unreleased song. It would go on to dominate the charts in its original form for months afterwards (see below).

We shortlisted follow-up Sax (see below) as one of our songs of the year in 2015 and debut album Love, Sax and Flashbacks consolidated her success.

We’re looking forward to hearing far more of East in 2019 than the few singles promised if they are of the quality of January 2019’s song of the month, officially our new Favourite Thing.
