SONG OF THE WEEK: Emotionally Unavailable by Suede (week beginning Sunday 28 June 2026)

WORTH A LOOK?: ****

Next month the LP which won our monsta for Best Album of 2025Antidepressants by Suede – is released in an expanded version and this is 1 of the new tracks featured on it.

  • Read on for reasons including where to see Suede on tour with the Manic Street Preachers this year

Antidepressants expanded out 10 July features previously unheard and rare tracks alongside Antidepressants (Demos), including 11 recordings of scratch tracks, demo takes and early mixes.

Emotionally Unavailable once again mines the post-punk seam of this album and its predecessor Autofiction with guitarist Richard Oakes explaining the band’s current purple patch: ‘My teenage influences – Keith Levene (of Public Image Ltd), John McGeoch (of Siouxsie and the Banshees), the Fall, Wire – didn’t really have a place in the writing in the early years’ but ‘suddenly I felt it did have a place.’

Emotionally Unavailable reflects on a relationship where: ‘The paint wasn’t even dry And the air-conditioning never seemed to be off.’

We next see Suede at the Cruilla Festival in Barcelona next week before they play Japan and then tour the UK with Manic Street Preachers this autumn with gigs including The 02 on 6 November 2026.

There’s also a hardback book called As One: Remaking Suede out 27 August 2026 reflecting on that purple patch.
