WORTH A LOOK?: ****
‘Gothic disco’ and ‘could be a bit Pet-sy‘ were just 2 of the band’s descriptions of this new single from a 12th studio album celebrating 40 years of the band.

For us the highlight of this classy Europop shimmy is the way it slips delicately into French (‘Je suis désolé … C’est magnifique, c’est fantastique’) evoking summer while reminding of the triumphant Pet Shop Boys’-penned I’m Not Scared by Eighth Wonder.
Masquerade is the 2nd single from the 11-track new LP which includes lead-off track Favourite, an original by Sara Dallin’s daughter Alice Dallin-Walker and another song co-written by stage name Alice D, Brand New.
The album is released on Friday (23 July) and days later the band officially launch it with gigs at London’s Lafayette. Tickets
Lockdown has seen Keren and Sara go through a reflective phase including the release of their self-penned book Really Saying Something of which we said: ‘We trust 2017’s Original Line-Up tour was captured more successfully not least because its Eventim Apollo gig won our Best Gig monsta in 2017.
‘The joy of that tour and their Hyde Park gig with the Pet Shop Boys makes for an upbeat conclusion to what is a terrific read for anyone with an interest in 80s music.
‘We checked out an online Q&A with the band shortly before the book’s release and there they talk about their plans for new music for their 40th anniversary in 2022 which would definitely be something to look forward to.’
