SONG OF THE MONTH: It Gets Dark by Sigrid (April 2022)

WORTH A LOOK?: ****

Sigrid’s sophomore album How To Let Go is released 6 May 2022 and this new single contains the defiantly optimistic lyric: ‘It Gets Dark so I can see the stars.’

  • Read on for reasons including how to see Sigrid in the UK on tour this year

We haven’t seen our favourite Norwegian pop star live since the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith in December 2019 at the end of the tour promoting her debut album.

We saw her twice in 2018 on the rise at 02 Shepherd’s Bush Empire and 02 Brixton Academy and, while it felt then that we really needed her debut album, she’s not delaying releasing its follow up which was likely written during the pandemic.

It Gets Dark initially sounds like a Bond theme as an orchestra strikes up but then we’re in more familiar Sigrid territory as she offers us a song that shows off what she does best but also what an accomplished songwriter she has become.

We also enjoyed her recent Griff collaboration Head On Fire although this doesn’t appear on any of the album tracklistings we have seen recently.

However recent singles Mirror and Burning Bridges both appear there which makes us feel confident that this album is shaping up just fine.

The tour initially planned for this spring has been put back when Sigrid will play her largest London gig yet in Wembley Arena this November. Further details of all dates at the link below. We’re also hoping to catch her at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
