Welcome to the titular Table 17 where Jada and Dallas are attempting to rekindle their romance and leave 7 years of baggage outside the restaurant.

• Read on for reasons including how we think this Table 17 will find a West End venue for its next encounter

Marisha Wallace (Guys And Dolls, Bridge Theatre) and Jamael Westman (London Tide, National Theatre) play the likeable couple in this romantic comedy we see meet, split and root for them again to have some mileage left on the clock of their relationship.

From the off Wallace’s endearing and outspoken Jada is encouraging the audience to let their feelings be known about what they’re seeing and this invitation is particularly well received by the predominantly female audience here on this night.

Westman’s Dallas is well-meaning but a little too focused on his music-making scheme at the expense of the attention Jada needs to sustain her faith in their under-threat relationship.

Michael Rishawn plays both a camp, lovelorn waiter and Dallas’ flight attendant love rival ready to lead a disappointed Jada astray.

Author Douglas Lyons gives us a 3-hander which is enjoying its UK premiere here in London following sold out runs in New York and Los Angeles.

It’s staged simply with the titular table rotating to offer different staging options on a theme.

Its runtime feels a little long for a play without interval and almost outstays its welcome but doesn’t thanks to the extreme likeability of its leads.

Does it have the potential for a West End transfer?

It’s certainly causing this audience to both laugh and invest emotionally in its cast.

Don’t be surprised then if this Table 17 does find a West End venue for its next encounter.
