WORTH A LOOK?: ****

It’s final track The Healing where Larsson feels at her most personal: ‘Can I be with you after the hurting? After the monsters in my head are finally gone? But can I be with you after the healing?’

It’s an appropriate week to be releasing a 4th album called Venus and the 12-song collection opens with debut single Can’t Tame Her a song of the month for us a year ago.
We said: ‘Think Maniac by Michael Sembello from 80s film Flashdance and you’re halfway there for a song which reminds of what the Swedish pop star can do at her frenetic dancefloor best.
‘Its lyrical defiance sits well for what marks the 1st release through Larsson’s own Sommer House label and it’s a welcome return to the club almost 2 years after last album Poster Girl which was an album of the month for us but we felt was a little over-thought.’
Other singles included are the dancefloor smash On Our Love, the collaboration with David Guetta that saw her back in the UK, Norway and Sweden top 15, and the epic, less upbeat End Of Time.
Elsewhere we’re enjoying the frenzied pop of Escape and the lovers’, erm, soundtrack of Soundtrack which mentions Radiohead’s Karma Police and hints at the darker themes of the aforementioned The Healing.
It’s live where Larsson’s strong vocals really shine and we’re looking forward to catching up with her at Camden Roundhouse this month as part of a European tour which currently runs until July and includes a UK appearance at the Isle Of Wight Festival in June.
We 1st saw her support MNEK, who co-wrote Can’t Tame Her, at Heaven in 2015 and then 2 years later as she headlined an impressive Eventim Apollo gig.
We said then: ‘She’s unrecognisable from the nervous 17-year-old we saw just two years ago and while we never doubted her ability to both dance and sing, it’s her flowering writing talent coupled with a super warm personality which means her popularity can only grow as the hits she pens keep coming.’
It’s quite something to think that it was 9 years ago since Lush Life, the song that broke Larsson around the world, and, on the evidence of this collection, she looks set to be enjoying similar success for many years to come.
