SONG OF THE MONTH: Midnight Sun by Zara Larsson (September 2025)

WORTH A LOOK?: ****

Meteorological summer may be over but Larsson’s 5th album, of which this is the title track, aims to encapsulate a Swedish summer where the sun never goes down.

  • Read on for reasons including how album 5 is business as usual for Larsson

We visited Iceland for midsommar this year and it’s a concept that appeals especially with the return of co-writer MNEK to the Larsson fold and lyrics as bold as: ‘Skinnydipping with your heart out, it’s my favourite part, Now we ain’t gotta tell noone, a neverending Midnight Sun.’

Larsson says: ‘I wanted to write about a Swedish summer where the sun never goes down. I wanted the whole album to feel like it’s a summer night and it never ends. And it doesn’t matter if it’s December: the summer night will be there for you. It’s waiting for you, it will come back for you, and you will come back for it.’

It’s not just her beau who’s going naked on the late summer pop club anthem that is Midnight Sun because Larsson’s showing ‘my tan lines, rooftop down’.

MNEK co-wrote Midnight Sun and also lends a pen to Crush from the album.

If that’s not enough there’s even a chance to see Larsson live at Wembley Arena as part of a European tour.

It’s live when her strong vocal and pop vibe comes alive and we wrote of a 2024 Camden Roundhouse set: ‘Now may be a point in a career when Larsson might feel that she wants to experiment and co-write material that’s perhaps a little darker and away from the dancefloor’.

There’s no indication from the tracks released from the new album so far that she’s in any way following that advice which may come as further music to the ears of her die-hard fans.
