WORTH A LOOK?: ****
Jellyfish is the sound of schools breaking up for summer, lotion lathered on lazy sunbathers and the moon lighting the way home after a giddy evening.
- Read on for reasons including how Jellyfish is ridiculous, oddly threatening and perhaps even occasionally suggesting of asexuality
It boasts a prominent, rubbery bass, hushed backing vocals that shimmer and quiet melodic keyboard chimes that create a languid yet catchy sound evoking the season.
The lyrics speak of attraction, flirtation and yet awkwardness: ‘I saw you from across the room, looking shaky, concentrating, Missing all your social cues and, from that moment in the quiet, I decided, it’s me and you, it’s us against the world.’
Sigrid’s voice is as characteristic and clear as ever yet the ‘move like a Jellyfish‘ hook feels both ridiculous, oddly threatening and perhaps even occasionally suggesting of asexuality.
Jellyfish is already forming part of Sigrid’s set in the summer shows she’s playing across Europe.
We’re loving the sentiment of the lyrics: ‘If you go dancing, I’ll go dancing too. If you’re a loser then I’m just like you.’
We last saw Sigrid live at OVO Arena, Wembley in 2022 and can’t wait to do so again writing: ‘As we leave this venue, alongside thousands of delighted fans, we glance across to the iconic Wembley Stadium and think that, one day, perhaps in the not-too-distant future even, it would be very lucky to have an older Sigrid Solbakk Raabe playing on its stage.’
Jellyfish marks 1 shimmy closer to that goal and now we just need to hear that new album it’s from.
