SONG OF THE WEEK: Edge Of Saturday Night by The Blessed Madonna & Kylie Minogue

WORTH A LOOK?: *****

The vibe is 90s Brothers In Rhythm uptempo house served with some block-rockin’ beats courtesy of The Blessed Madonna and Kylie is having an absolute ball explaining were it necessary: ‘Monday doesn’t matter at all’.

  • Read on for reasons including why we’re absolutely here for this messier, brattier Kylie

Lyrically it’s a million miles from debut hit I Should Be So Lucky leaning into the edging concept and conjuring up that such a good weekend feeling ‘6-deep in the bathroom stalls’.

Ms Minogue is on something of a hot streak as less than a month ago her last single with Bebe Rexha and Tove Lo My Oh My was a song of the week for us.

We said of it: ‘The ‘la, la, las’ will remind of perhaps Kylie’s biggest hit and we’re hoping its inclusion on a repackaged version of Kylie’s last album Tension will be accompanied by the announcement of a UK arena tour including gigs at London’s 02 because it feels too long since we last saw our favourite Aussie live.’

On Edge Kylie’s in formidable memorable lyric territory with: ‘I swear the rhythm got to save my life’, ‘I got a hot date with my mistakes’ and ‘iPhone dead, don’t drunk dial him.’

In the spirit of the latest Charli XCX album we’re only finally appreciating, we’re absolutely here for this messier, brattier version of Kylie. ‘Why walk when you can crawl?’ Indeed.
