SONG OF THE MONTH: Tension by Kylie (September 2023)

WORTH A LOOK?: ****

The title track from Kylie’s 16th album out 22 September proves Padam Padam, a song of the week for us in May and Ms Minogue’s biggest UK hit for 13 years, was no flash in the pan.

  • Read on for reasons including why we haven’t been this excited for a Kylie album since 2000

Tension is 1 of 8 co-writes on that album and, if anything, its electropop and tapping of a very now 90s dance nostalgia is even more assured than its predecessor.

It’s tapping into everything Kylie has always done best: this is fun pop with multiple hooks, dancefloor based and unashamedly flirtatious as anything.

We’re particularly loving it because we too are on ‘Vacay-cay-cay’ not far from ‘Chil-e-e’ (spelling incorrect) and we haven’t been this excited for a new Kylie album since Light Years in 2000.

If you’re new to the Kylie party, the 1st track from this album release was 10 Out Of 10 with Oliver Heldens which was far more dancefloor obsessed than either of its successors and is available on music platforms.

We remain a little disappointed with the Vegas residency and would rather see her in the UK and hope she announces that tour soon although there is the promise of an 02 Shepherd’s Bush Empire gig this month in London for the very lucky, lucky, lucky.

Hey! Love this song review. Did you manage to see her? At O2 or maybe that Radio 2 festival?
