SONG OF THE WEEK: Freak Me Now by Jessie Ware & Roisin Murphy (week beginning 1 September 2023)

WORTH A LOOK?: ****

That! Feels Good! is our favourite of Ware’s 5 albums and this 4th single from it features former Moloko frontwoman Murphy.

  • Read on for reasons including everything we know about Murphy’s new album and where to see her in London in 2024

Ware co-wrote it with genius Stuart Price and Clarence Coffee Jnr and it’s very representative of an uptempo disco album revelling in its funk and orchestral stabs.

Ware supports Kylie at a Radio 2 gig in Leicester next month before 14 US and Canada dates and a return to the UK with 6 gigs including 2 at London’s Alexandra Palace.

On 7 September 2023 we discover whether That! Feels Good! wins the Mercury Prize it has been nominated for 11 years after Ware being shortlisted for Devotion.

It’s been a great year already for Ware whose song Free Yourself featured in a Eurovision Song Contest semi final interval act in 2023’s triumphant Eurovision show.

The former Moloko singer’s 6th album Hit Parade is out 8 September and includes singles CooCool and The Universe but not Freak Me Now. Moloko plays Alexandra Palace on 24 February 2024. Tickets

Murphy lends Ware credibility and outrageousness and this is a duet we weren’t expecting but we’re absolutely up for move of where it came from.
