We awarded 11 monstas for the best pop, theatre, TV and film of 2015 – and here we look at the cream of 2016 so far and what’s to come.
- Read on for our best single, TV, film and actor of 2016 so far
BEST SINGLE
It was almost The Pop Kids by the Pet Shop Boys or Zayn Malik’s Pillowtalk but we think Zara Larsson’s debut solo hit just shades it.
BEST FILM
We enjoyed Ryan Reynolds-starrer Deadpool and can’t wait for Absolutely Fabulous (1/7) and the Melissa McCarthy/Kristin Wiig Ghostbusters reboot (15/7). Still waiting for a release date for The Pass, which we saw earlier this year.
BEST TV/FILM ACTOR
Cap doffed to Benedict Cumberbatch in The Hollow Crown and Tom Hollander in The Night Manager but our vote goes to Paul Dano in War and Peace for succeeding at being the beating heart at the centre of this sprawling epic.
BEST TV
The three series mentioned above would certainly all be in contention for us. We loved BBC4’s Trapped also. But we’ll plump for a clip from this Tom Hiddleston-starrer:
The final seven months of 2016 promise a second series of Channel Four’s Paul Abbott-penned No Offence starring Joanna Scanlan, Elaine Cassidy and Paul Ritter with a debut from Sarah Solemani, a Sheridan Smith BBC drama about child abduction called The Moorside Project, series three of ITV’s Broadchurch, as well as new seasons ofWalking Dead and reality shows X Factor and Strictly.
