  1. Pretty Woman: The Musical opens starring Aimie Atkinson and Danny Mac

Bryan Adams co-wrote this musical version of the beloved 1990 Julia Roberts/Richard Gere film which ran on Broadway starring Samantha Barks (performing in clip above) for a year until August. Atkinson has a Eurovision connection and we saw her in Six in the West End. Mac will be familiar to Strictly viewers. Opens at the Piccadilly Theatre 13/2, booking until 2/1/21. Tickets

2. Be More Chill at the Other Palace

Blake Patrick Anderson (Closer To Heaven, Above The Stag) and Millie O’Connell (Six) both star in this new musical about how high school popularity can be as simple as popping a pill. Its score was Tony-nominated and it runs 12/2 through 3/5 at the Other Palace. Tickets

3. Melodifestivalen’s 60th anniversary

Sweden’s brilliant six-week Eurovision selection series returns 1 February and we’ve previewed Heat 1,Heat 2, Heat 3 and Heat 4. for you already. 2020 marks the show’s 60th anniversary and there’s much to look forward to ahead of the 7/3/20 finalen. We’ll be predicting the winners every Friday at monstagigz.com between now and then.

4. A Number starring Colin Morgan at the Bridge

We caught a Young Vic production of this Caryl Churchill play about identity a few years ago and it’s only made us more excited for the return to the stage of Colin Morgan (Translations, National Theatre) and Roger Allam. Runs 14/2 to 14/3/20. Tickets

5. La Cage Aux Folles at the Park

Three years ago we raved about a touring production of the musical version of this play. Simon Callow translated this version of the play/book without the songs and it runs at the Park Theatre 12/2 to 21/3/20. Tickets

6. Death of England starring Rafe Spall

We last saw Spall on stage in the magnificent Constellations and here he stars in a one-man play as Michael who feels powerless and angry after the death of his father. Runs at the National’s Dorfman Theatre 31/1/20 to 7/3/20. Tickets

7. Jessica Hynes in Far Away at the Donmar

Hynes made our Best TV/Film Actress shortlist last year for her role in Russell T. Davies’ Years and Years and here appears in a Caryl Churchill play directed by Lyndsey Turner. Runs 6/2 through 28/3/20. Tickets

8. Inside No. 9 returns to BBC2

Series five of our favourite anthology show returns to BBC2 3/2 for a six-week run with a football-themed episode called The Referee’s A W***er starring Ralf Little. Our Q&As with its creators in 2016 and 2017 shed a little light on one of TV’s greatest shows.

9. Once arrives in Woking

We saw Ronan Keating star in the West End production in 2014 and this original musical based on a film about an unlikely couple who find each other through music won 2008’s Oscar for Best Song for Falling Slowly. This touring production arrives in Woking for a run from 10/2 through 15/2/20. Tickets

    Just saw Once on Friday night In Woking, I missed it in London all those years ago. It was worth waiting for! A great musical ensemble – everyone was terrific – superb show!!!
