PREVIEW: 9 reasons why we can’t wait for September

  1. Beverley Knight is in Sylvia at the Old Vic

We’ve enjoyed a live taster of this hip hop production which runs at the Old Vic 3-22/9 with Knight (2nd from left), who last wowed in Cats at the Palladium, starring as women’s rights campaigner Emmeline Pankhurst. Elliotte Williams N’Dure (centre clip below) absolutely bossing proceedings. Tickets

  • Read on for reasons including Patti LuPone in the West End, Janelle Monae in London & Killing Eve

2. Patti LuPone and Rosalie Craig in Company

We’d have been excited enough by Jonathan Bailey, Rosalie Craig and Mel Giedroyc going Sondheim at the Gielgud 26/9 to 22/12. But the casting of Broadway legend Patti LuPone in Marianne Elliott’s (Angels In America) gender-switch of Company is game changing. Tickets

3. Janelle Monae plays Camden

The film star and frontrunner for our album of 2018 so far brings her Prince-influenced funk to the Camden Roundhouse for 2 dates this month. Tickets

4. Killing Eve by Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who won a monsta for Fleabag, developed this 8-part drama for BBC America and was rewarded with 1 of 2 Emmy nominations for this show which must air soon because we’re at a BAFTA preview for it in September as well as Q&A. Tickets

5. League Of Gentleman tour

Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, Reece Shearsmith and Jeremy Dyson reunited for 3 TV specials last Christmas and tour until 29/9 with London gigs at the Eventim Apollo and O2. Tickets

6. We’re on Blackheath at ONBlackheath

Squeeze and Paloma Faith headline this family friendly boutique festival on our south London doorstep 8 and 9/9. Reasons why you should go. Tickets

7. Foxfinder stars Iwan Rheon and Paul Nicholls from Ackley Bridge

Rheon starred in both Game Of Thrones and Vicious on TV but also won a Best Supporting Actor Olivier in 2010 and here returns to the stage for the 1st time since 2011. Performing alongside Paul Nicholls, he stars in this drama at the Ambassadors Theatre starting 6/9.Tickets

8. MNEK’s Language

Colour is 1 of our favourite songs of the year so far, his Camden Roundhouse gig this summer was special and so we can’t wait for this debut LP out 7/9.

9. No Offence returns

Screen Shot 2018-08-28 at 18.39.45

We’re at a BAFTA Q&A 10/9 for a preview of the 3rd series of this excellent police drama written by Paul Abbott and starring Joanna Scanlon and Will Mellor. Tickets
