Cinderella trailer:
2. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits cinemas
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a new Star Wars movie and this promises Darth Vader and the Death Star as well as Mads Mikkelsen. Out 16/12. ‘Rebellions are built on hope …’
3. Fatboy slays The 02
We only caught Mr Slim for the first time at Glastonbury this year and, while none of it seemed very live, the non-stop greatest hits DJ set was high-energy and brilliant. Playing The 02 17/12. Tickets
4. Mary Stuart flips a coin at the Almeida
The best thing about the recent Royal Shakespeare Company production of Doctor Faustus at the Barbican was the theatre of deciding who was going to play the lead at the start of the show. The always reliable Juliet Stevenson (Happy Days at the Young Vic) and Lia Williams (outstanding in the Almeida’s Oresteia and currently in BBC1’s The Missing) will do similar here. Runs 2/12 – 21/1/17. Picture courtesy Almeida. Tickets
5. Art imitates life at the Old Vic
This revival is directed by Matthew Warchus and stars Tim Key, Paul Ritter and Rufus Sewell (pictured). Runs 10/12 – 18/2/17. Tickets
6. The Red Shoes donned at Sadler’s Wells
Two Christmases ago we saw Matthew Bourne’s beautiful re-imagining of Edward Scissorhands and this year he turns his hand to another celluloid classic. Runs 6/12 – 29/1/17. Tickets
7. Brian Cox and Robin Ince’s Christmas Compendium
Professor Brian Cox has performed one of the more daring career switches from 90s popstar to revered BBC science presenter. For each of the last two Christmases we’ve watched him and fellow presenter Robin Ince debunk the season with the help of stars including The Cure (above), New Order and Alison Moyet. Who this year? Tickets
8. Red Hot Chilli Peppers spice up The 02
Give It Away, Californication and Under the Bridge? We pop our live Chilli Peppers’ cherry at The 02 this month. Tickets
